Here are some questions I’m frequently asked about my affiliate program. Be sure to read the how this works page first for more of a complete overview.
How Much Can I Earn With Your Affiliate Program?
Technically, there is no limit to how much you can earn from promoting my courses. If 100 sales go through your affiliate link in the month, you will earn 50% of all of those sales.
The amount we pay is 50% of the product sales price after Clickbank (our payment processor) have taken their fees. Clickbank fees are 7.5% of the product sale price plus $1.
So say for example you make a sale of the IMA Music Business Academy Fastest course. For the buyer, this is $9.99 on day one, and $109.99 on day 4.
If someone clicks on your link then goes on to buy, on day one Clickbank will take $1.75, and you’ll get 50% of the remaining $8.24 = $4.12.
On day 4, Clickbank will take $9.25, and you’ll get 50% of the remaining $100.74 = $50.37.
So on one sale of the ‘Fastest’ version of the IMA Music Business Academy, you’ll earn $54.49 in total. If you can make 10 sales of this course a month, that’s $544.90. Sell more and you make more.
Some courses are priced higher, some are priced lower. You’ll always get 50% of the profits regardless of which course you sell.
When Do I Get Paid?
You get paid directly through your Clickbank account 60 days after a product is sold (60 days is standard in case of a refund), as long as you meet Clickbank’s payout requirements:
- When your account is new, you’ll have to make 5 sales before you get your first payment. This is so Clickbank knows you’re not just using your account to get rebates and discounts on your own product buys. There will have to be at least two different payment methods used (e.g. Paypal and Master Card). After these first five sales, this requirement won’t apply any more. You can get paid out after every one product you sales if you match the next requirement:
- You’ve reached the payment threshold you’ve set in your Clickbank account. You can choose between $10 and $1,000,000 as your threshold. $2.50 is taken by CB for each payment issued, so if you’re making a lot of sales, you’ll want to keep your threshold higher so you’re not charged that $2.50 as much. If you’re only making a few sales and want your payments asap, then put a low threshold.
For your first two payments, Clickbank will send you a check. After those have both successfully gone through, you can change your account settings to receive direct deposits into your bank account. Both of these checks must be issued within a three month period to get the direct deposit option, so be sure to put your payout threshold as low as possible when you’re starting out.
How Do I Get My Affiliate Link?
You get your affiliate link inside your Music Affiliate Programs account. In order to get an account, you first need a Clickbank Nickname. You can get this by signing up for a Clickbank account, and choosing a Nickname. Once you have that, sign up for an account on Music Affiliate Programs using your Clickbank Nickname.
Once you’re inside your new Music Affiliate Programs account, go to the ‘Affiliate URL’ page in the navigation bar. There you can choose which product you want to promote via a drop down menu.
Once you’ve done that, click the ‘Get Link’ button. This will give you an affiliate link unique to you. You’ll see it has your Clickbank username in it. Whenever someone clicks this then goes on to buy one of our products, you’ll get credited for it.
How Will We Track Your Sales?
Whenever someone clicks on your affiliate link, a cookie will automatically be placed on their computer. If someone with a cookie of yours goes on to buy one of my product, the cookie will register that and credit your account with the sale.
All click and sale tracking happens via both our site and Clickbank. You can login to either to see your latest sales reports (login to my site here, login to Clickbank here). You have to login to Clickbank to see when you’re next getting paid and to add your payment details.
How Long Will My Cookie Last?
60 days. So if someone clicks your link then buys a online music business course 59 days later, you’ll still get credited for the sale. Once you make a product sale for a customer, you’ll receive any recurring commission from that sale for as long as they last, even if they’re still getting billed after 60 days.
The User Flow – What Do Customers See?
Interested in where people you send to our site will go? Here’s how it works.
When a musician clicks your affiliate link, they’re taken to a page on our site which offers them a free ebook in exchange for their name and email address. If they sign up, as well as sending them a useful free ebook on music marketing, I send them emails twice a week with new guides as they come along.
As they look at these guides, they’ll naturally be directed to my courses and products via various links around my site (and in my emails). If they follow one of these links and go on to buy one of my products (within 60 days of them initially clicking your link), you’ll get credited for the sale.
If they choose not to add their name and email address, they can click a link which will bring them to the sales page of the product you’ve chosen. If they go on to buy this product within 60 days of clicking your link, the sale will be credited to you.
It’s beneficial to you if they do sign up for the free ebook, as it’ll mean I can remind them of products which will benefit them over time. If they don’t sign up, they may leave the site after seeing the sales page once and never return again. So encourage your readers to download the free ebook and you will make more sales. 🙂
